Domestic Violence and Abuse
Domestic violence or abuse can affect anyone in society irrespective of income, gender, colour and sexual orientation. The effects can be devastating.
Domestic violence is not just physical abuse/assault but includes a variety of ‘controls’ including verbal abuse, emotional manipulation and financial control. Domestic violence can take place between relatives and not just married couples or those in a relationship.
Statistics indicate that almost a third of abused women and nearly two thirds of abused men tell no-one of the worst incidents. Many people do not know where to get help for domestic violence.
Our specialist family law team provide sensitive and sympathetic advice in relation to domestic violence for women, men and children. Where necessary we can act quickly to protect you (and, if necessary, any children) by obtaining a Non-Molestation Order (injunction). In certain circumstances it may also be necessary to obtain Orders preventing the children being removed from your care (Prohibited Steps Order) and in securing your right to occupy the family home free from your abuser (Occupation Order). We can assist you in securing all the protection that you need for you and your family.
