Frequently asked questions

Here are some questions we often get asked. If you need any more information, just give us a call and we will be happy to answer your queries.

Making a Will is one of the most important decisions that a person can make. A Will tells everyone what should happen to your money, possessions and property, known as your estate. If you do not have a Will, your wishes will not be met, as the law will decide how your estate is distributed.

You can do it yourself, but there is a risk that if you get it wrong, it may be contested by those you did not wish to inherit, you may also miss elements of your estate or the Will may not be valid. It is best to seek legal advice to ensure your entire estate is considered, including your assets, tax, and wishes for your children.

Because we tailor-make your Will for you, the cost will depend on your particular circumstances. Our prices start at £180 (including VAT) for Wills where everything passes to one or more people outright, with no tax or trust complications. We will be happy to fix our costs when we have an understanding of your requirements.

All our Will writing packages include consultations with a member of the team, drafting the Will, clear advice throughout the process, including where necessary; inheritance tax advice and advice on the signing of your Will. All our Wills packages offer free storage as standard.

An LPA is a legally registered document which gives another individual the legal authority to look after your financial affairs, or health and welfare, should you lose the capacity to do so. It is not just for the elderly; younger people may become incapacitated through accident or illness and require someone to look after their affairs. It is possible to prepare these documents for the future, as you do not have to register them until the need arises.

Probate is a term used when a person dies and their Personal Representatives (or Executive, if they are named in the Will) has the task of dealing with their estate. This process is referred to as ‘probate’ or ‘administration’ in the situation where there is no Will.
